Q: WHO SAILS THE BOAT?
A: Offshore has partnered with an international team of highly trained, professional captains and sailing instructors. A skilled member from this team will be joining us as our captain. In addition to their sailing experience, all captains are trained in navigation and first aid medical response to keep you safe and on course throughout the week.
Q: DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SAIL?
A: No. Our captains will be responsible for sailing the boat, but residents are welcome and encouraged to participate in working the boat, under the captain's direction, as much as they wish.
Q: WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS ONBOARD?
A: There is limited private space while aboard a sailboat. We find that this builds the community, but it's not for everyone. Living space inside the boat is compact but comfortable. There is generous shared space on deck and in the cabins below. Accommodations include both private and shared rooms. There are both indoor and outdoor showers on board.
Q: HOW DO MEALS WORK ON THE BOAT?
A: Offshore program directors will provision your boat with food for 7 days. This will include 7 breakfasts, 6 lunches, and 4-5 dinners. We expect to eat out for 3-5 meals. All food will be sourced locally for the freshest and finest foods available.
Q: WHO COOKS?
A: Dining aboard is family style and will take place at scheduled times. Offshore program directors and captains will do the majority of meal preparation, but cooking and cleaning volunteers are always welcome and strongly encouraged. Snacks will be plentiful and available at any time.
Q: WILL I BE ABLE TO CHARGE MY ELECTRONICS?
A: Yes. You can charge battery-powered electronics on board, but only when the boat engine is running. Keep in mind though, up to 10 people will be sharing the same charging station, so expect to take turns or consider bringing an additional battery to have on hand.
Q: WHAT ARE THE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS?
A: You should ensure you do not have a medical condition that will interfere with your ability to participate in the Offshore Residency program. You are required to inform Offshore of any medical conditions ahead of time to ensure your safety and the safety of other passengers. Residents must be physically able to climb a ladder and get in and out of the boat with ease.
Q: WHAT IF I GET SEASICK?
A: Sea sickness is common and easily managed. There are a variety of seasickness and nausea medications. We can make some recommendations should you want to purchase something in advance.
